🔌 Is your electronics shipment stuck at customs? Here’s the ECAS check you might be missing...
For manufacturers and importers that are dealing with Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE) in the UAE, from household appliances to IT gear, compliance with UAE RoHS (Cabinet Decision No. 10 of 2017) is mandatory and strictly enforced.
While the UAE RoHS mirrors the EU’s RoHS 2.0 Directive, assuming EU compliance automatically satisfies local requirements is a common and costly mistake.
Unlike the EU system, where manufacturers issue a Declaration of Conformity (DoC), the UAE mandates an active certification process under the Emirates Conformity Assessment Scheme (ECAS), overseen by the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT).
The 10 Restricted Substances: Lead (Pb), Mercury (Hg), Cadmium (Cd), Hexavalent Chromium (Cr6+), and the four Phthalates (DEHP, BBP, DBP, DIBP).
Compliance Requirement: To clear customs and place products on the UAE market, you need to obtain a Certificate of Conformity (CoC) under the ECAS RoHS scheme.
Option 1: ECAS Certificate of Conformity (1-Year Validity)
Requires a DoC, risk assessment documentation, and test reports for critical components.
Fastest route, but needs annual renewal.
Option 2: Emirates Quality Mark (EQM) License (3-Year Validity)
Requires a full factory audit by an approved Notified Body.
More effort upfront but provides a longer compliance period and the prestige of EQM quality mark on your product.
Your existing REACH and EU RoHS Technical Files (IEC 63000) contain 90% of the data needed for UAE ECAS registration. CHEMLEX bridges the remaining 10%, local ECAS application, risk assessment formatting, and liaison with MoIAT, approved Notified Bodies.
Non-compliance is more than a fine...it’s a customs blocker:
Products can be held in quarantine at ports
Required to be withdrawn from the market
Subject to re-export to country of origin
Don’t let your supply chain be the next victim of an administrative roadblock.
WWhether it’s a quick 1-year ECAS certificate or a full 3-year EQM license, we leverage your existing global compliance data to ensure rapid and cost-effective market access in the UAE.
